Precision Plastics Machining Services

Precision-machined plastic components held to tolerances as tight as ±0.001" — from a Linden, New Jersey shop serving OEMs since 1968.

Precision CNC Plastics Machining Services

Pro Plastics machines engineering plastics — and only plastics. Unlike metal, plastics move: they expand under heat, relieve internal stress as material comes off, and creep under clamping load. Holding ±0.001" means selecting the right stock form, matching feeds and speeds to the specific resin, and knowing which materials will not hold that tolerance at all. Serving OEMs since 1968, that material judgment is what we bring to a print before the first chip is cut.

We machine everything from simple turned parts to complex three-dimensional contours, in one-off prototypes and production runs alike, in parts up to 48" × 96". Send a print and we come back within 24 hours, with material selection and DFM review included in the quote.

Plastic Machining Services: Common Questions

What does a plastic machining company do differently from a metal shop?

A plastic machining company cuts parts from engineering-plastic stock shapes, and plans every job around how plastics behave: they expand with heat, release internal stress as material comes off, and deflect or creep under clamping load. Pro Plastics machines engineering plastics and only plastics, so feeds and speeds are matched to the resin on the print, not carried over from metal.

What tolerances can you hold on machined plastic parts?

Our standard machining tolerance is ±0.005", precision work is ±0.002", and we hold ±0.001" on precision features. What a given part will hold depends on the material and the size of the dimension: as a shop rule of thumb, machined-plastic tolerance runs on the order of ±0.001" per inch of dimension. Stable plastics such as acetal and Ultem are the cooperative end of that range; soft, high-expansion plastics such as UHMW and PTFE move after cutting and with temperature, so on those we quote what we can hold with the working environment in mind, and say so at the quote.

Which plastics do you machine?

The engineering plastics we machine routinely are PEEK, Ultem (PEI), Torlon (PAI), Vespel, Delrin (Acetal), Nylon 6/6, PTFE (Teflon), UHMW, Polycarbonate, G-10/FR-4, and Phenolic. Most have their own material page, linked from the Materials We Machine list on this page, with typical stock-shape properties and notes on how each one machines.

Do you machine one-off prototypes or only production runs?

Both. We machine one-off prototypes and production runs alike, from simple turned parts to complex three-dimensional contours, in parts up to 48" × 96".

What do I send for a quote, and how fast will I hear back?

Send a drawing or CAD model (STEP, DXF, DWG, PDF, STL and images are accepted) with the material, quantity and any critical tolerances. We come back within 24 hours, with material selection and DFM review included in the quote. An NDA is available on request.

Are you a plastics-only machine shop?

Yes. Pro Plastics machines plastics only, no metal. That focus is the point: a shop that cuts only plastic has its process, tooling and feeds built around materials that move, rather than adapting a metal-cutting process to them.
